Well here we are starting down the Intracoastal Waterway at mile zero in Norfolk. We left Norfolk headed down the ICW. Mile zero starts out in front of the marina.

Nov 14, Wednesday

We traveled 78 miles, a long day relative to other days. We anchored in Pungo Creek in the Pungo River as it seemed like a nice anchorage.

November 15, 2001

Nov 15, Thursday

We pulled into Beaufort, NC (pronounced bofort), at the Town Creek Marina. Just off the docks at the marina was a mast with all the rigging intact sticking out of the water. They said it sank four years ago. We borrowed their courtesy car and went grocery shopping to stock up on supplies then went into town to look around.

November 16, 2001

Nov 16, Friday

We went for a walk in Beaufort in the morning before we left. It took us about 45 minutes. The town is a late 17th century fishing village and safe harbor, lovely and unpretentious. Many of the houses had historic signs on them, built in the 1700-1800s.

We got underway and headed back to the ICW only to run aground. This was only the third or fourth time!

Nov 17, Saturday

Air 51, water 58, mile 228, miles traveled 67, left 6:58 arrived 2:15.
We left Swansboro and headed down the ICW. Our boat measures 10.5 feet from the waterline to the top of the radar dome which is a real benefit. We have gone under many bridges that were only 12-16 feet high allowing us to catch up to many of the faster boats.
